Athlete Highlights… Commitment to Hard Work Pays Off

Most young high school athletes would like the opportunity to compete at the next level. With the transfer portal changes of the past few years, getting there now requires an even greater year-round commitment to their craft, both on the mound and in the weight room.

As we’ve discussed many times in the past, throwing velocity comes from a variety of factors, including mechanics, mobility, strength, power, sequencing, and more.

The two standout athletes below, Dex Ellis (Columbia High School) and Angel Salcedo (Seton Hall Prep), didn’t get here overnight or by accident. Their progress is the result of consistent hard work during the past few years, and it’s clearly paying off.

Dex Ellis – Class 2029

Sophomore Dex Ellis has been training at RPP since the fall of 2024 when he was only 13 years old. During this time period his pitching velocity has increased from 77 mph to more recently touching 92 mph.

The following is a summary of his weight room metrics.

    • Body weight – 175 lbs.
    • Deadlift – 460 lbs. (2.6x BW)
    • Bench – 180 lbs. (1x BW)

Angel Salcedo – Class 2028

Seton Hall Baseball Commit Angel Salcedo started training at RPP beginning in 8th grade.  During this time period his pitching velocity has increased from 77 mph to more recently touching 91 mph.

The following is a summary of his weight room metrics.

    • Body weight – 185 lbs.
    • Deadlift – 415 lbs. (2.25x BW)
    • Bench – 240 lbs. (1.3x BW)
