Most often pitchers and position players associate their pitching velocity, bat speed or exit velo with their mechanics. As our understanding of the body and technology has improved over the years, it is now more apparent than ever that your ceiling is limited more than anything else by your physical ability.
First let’s be clear, there isn’t a “one-size-fits-all” solution when it comes to training. As a result, our assessment covers an extensive range of topics that helps us determine the overall mobility, elasticity, physicality, and strength and power production of our athletes. The information provides an excellent roadmap when developing a customized training program.
In general terms, the assessment includes the following:
-
- Anthropometrics
- Mobility – Lower Half
- Mobility – Upper Half
- Strength
- Power – Lower Half
- Power – Upper Half (needs Proteus)
- Speed
- Elasticity – Lower Half
- Elasticity – Upper Half (needs Proteus)
- Deceleration
- Body Fat % and Mass Ratios
- Force Velocity Profile
By the time an athlete has completed our evaluation, we have an excellent idea of where his strengths and weaknesses are from a physical standpoint. There is NO better blueprint. Here is a brief video on the evaluation:
In addition, given our historical intake of this type of information, we have assembled target ranges for each, and every metric based on age and level. This in turn allows us to, not only develop a complete plan but also, immediately identify the lowest hanging fruit to improve performance.
The metrics listed below are based on a Scale of 100. These ratings allow us to identify the areas with the greatest room for improvement. As each athlete relies on different degrees of these metrics to create their athleticism, being able to see room for improvement at-a-glance is key in order to create a more efficient program that addresses each athlete’s individual needs. It can also provide the athlete with an aha! moment, when they feel stuck at a given velocity.

Testimonials
Matt Williams Pitching Coach (Coastal Carolina University)
“I can say without any reservation that RPP is one of the best in the business, perhaps even the best at what they do.”
“This past year, for the 2nd year in a row, I asked Nunzio and his staff to join us to perform a comprehensive evaluation of all of our guys. Over a 2-day period they assessed our pitchers physically and analyzed their movement quality on the mound.
They begin by highlighting the lowest hanging fruit from a mobility, strength, power and movement standpoint and then guide us on how to use the information to build our own strength programs. They also provided individualized movement correctives to help our pitchers improve their movement quality on the mound.
I’ve seen a good amount over the years and I can say without any reservation that RPP is one of the best in the business, perhaps even the best at what they do.”
Terry Rooney, Pitching Coach (University of South Carolina)
“Without a doubt, they set the gold standard with their evals.”
“This past year we asked Nunzio and the RPP staff to visit with us at South Carolina to perform a comprehensive assessment and evaluation of all of our pitchers. They covered every aspect of the athlete, from mobility to strength to power and overall athleticism and movement.
At the conclusion, they prepared a summary of each athlete’s results which gave us a roadmap for training them in the weight room plus individualized drills and movement correctives to help our pitchers improve their overall delivery. Without a doubt, they set the gold standard with their evals.”
Drew Dickinson, Pitching Coach (University of Virginia
